Power NHL: Best goal of the 2007/08 season

Here we go again for another year. A tournament of the best goal of the passing season, only this time, it will all be in one poll. Yes, not many spectacular goals to choose from, one poll, three goals to vote on. Vote after you seen all the goals.

So let's get started with Rick Nash's amazing rush against the Phoenix Coyotes:

What dekes! Now we'll move onto rookie sensation Jonathan Toews's great dangles:

Wow, what a player he's going to be. And finally, a goal that probably not all of you have seen, an amazing example of skill in the playoffs by the Conn Smythe winner Henrik Zetterberg.

How did he know where the puck was going to be, amazing, definatly my fave. And that wraps up another year at Power NHL's of the "Best Goal of the Passing Season" tournament. Vote on the poll below and tell me what goal you thought was the best. The poll closes August 20 so you have lots of time to vote and tell your friends and family to drop in a vote and join me back here later, for once againg the "Best Save of the Passing Season" Thank You!

Posts are back, if anyones there?

Yeah, yeah, I know nobody is probably reading this but if your that one bored person, here is somthing to do.

HALIFAX - Ken Hitchcock knew he was leaving Halifax. He just didn't know what mode of transportation he'd be taking.
The Canadian coach went through some nervous moments during an 8-2 quarter-final win over Norway at the IIHF World Hockey Championship on Wednesday. The victory earned his team a semifinal game with Sweden a few hours away in Quebec City.
"When it was 2-2, I was wondering if that ferry had a direct route to Columbus," Hitchcock said before boarding a plane to Quebec instead. "The players play and they don't worry about things. We sweated all day today as a coaching staff.
"These are defining moments for you as a coach because if you lose this game, you all (the media) are writing about us and me tomorrow. And it's not going to be pleasant."
The first half of this one wasn't very pleasant.
The Norwegians were heavy underdogs but found themselves in a tie game during the second period. The atmosphere was similar to the qualification round game these teams played earlier in the tournament, when Canada needed a late goal to pull out a win.
"Once again, they held on tough," said Canadian goalie Cam Ward, who made 22 saves. "Up until the middle of the second period, they gave us a little bit of a scare."
The defining moment for Canada was a power-play goal by Jonathan Toews at 9:57 of the middle period. That seemed to spark the team and linemate Derek Roy soon added two goals in a span of 2:42 to give Canada a 5-2 lead before the second intermission.
There was no chance for an unlikely upset after that.
"They got three fast goals there," said Norwegian goalie Pal Grotnes. "Then it was over."
Give the Norwegians credit, though - defenceman Anders Myrvold had spoken of the team's "Viking blood" and they showed plenty of toughness and fight in this one.

There are no easy games left now for a Canadian team that has reeled off 16 straight world championship wins and will have the pressure turned up as it enters the final weekend of the tournament as the favourites. Their next opponent certainly knows what's at stake.
"It will be a lot of fun to play Canada," said Swedish defenceman Anton Stralman. "Home ice, big favourite for a gold medal. So we're going to go out and give them a good fight."
The biggest obstacle for the Swedes or anyone else will be containing the Canadian forwards, who have pretty much had their way offensively so far. Roy is on this team's third line and was the star against Norway with three goals and an assist.
Rick Nash, with two, Dany Heatley, Ryan Getzlaf and Toews also scored goals for Canada.
Morten Ask and Mathis Olimb replied for the Norway, which was making a quarter-final appearance for the first time ever at this level.
The victory was especially important to the Canadian players because it will allow Eric Staal to rejoin the team. He missed Wednesday's game while attending a funeral for his grandfather in Thunder Bay, Ont., and will meet back up with his teammates in Quebec.
"He's a big part of this team and he's played extremely well for us," said Ward, who is also a teammate of Staal's in Carolina. "It's very unfortunate what happened to his grandfather at this time. We know that he's going to be fired up to come back.
"He did the right thing - family comes first. At the end of the day, we're just playing a game that we love."
Added Roy: "We needed a win for him. We wanted him to get another game."
Staal's absence opened up a spot for 18-year-old Sam Gagner but he only ended up seeing a couple of shifts in the third period once the outcome was secure.
Still, he would have had a goal if not for missing a wide open net.
"I just got a little anxious," said Gagner. "I haven't been out there in awhile."
There was no one more nervous in the Metro Centre than the man in charge of travel plans for the Canadian team. The players and their families had their bags packed but weren't totally sure whether they'd be boarding a scheduled evening flight to Quebec because a loss would have sent everyone home for the summer.
Canada scored on the opening shift for the second consecutive game. Heatley picked up a turnover in the neutral zone and came down the left wing before beating Grotnes from a sharp angle at 37 seconds.
That gave him 10 goals for the tournament - one more than the entire Norwegian team at that point.
It looked like it might get ugly but Canada soon found itself in penalty trouble. Brent Burns and Shane Doan were each sitting in the box when Ask tied the game at 7:51. He roofed one high over Ward's glove after the Norwegians had worked the puck around nicely with the 5-on-3 advantage.
Getzlaf restored the lead after Canada had been given an extended 5-on-3 advantage of its own. He scored his second goal of the tournament at 11:02 after Grotnes had turned aside a couple shots.
The Norwegians continued to play tight and again tied the game at 5:32 of the second period. Olimb beat Ward high to the glove side to briefly silence the crowd.
The lead didn't last and Canada soon poured it on. It was only a matter of time.
"They knew they were better, they knew they were more talented and they knew if they stayed with it they were going to win," Hitchcock said of his players.
Canada has now earned a spot in the semifinals for the sixth straight year. This is starting to look like another march to gold and the sellout Metro Centre crowd of 9,192 let the players know it by letting out a loud ovation as time ticked away.
The next stop is Quebec City.

Cup final rematch for Senators

The last time they squared off at the Honda Center, the stakes couldn’t have been any higher. And there will be a certain level of importance again Monday night, when the Ottawa Senators face off against the Anaheim Ducks (10 p.m., Rogers Sportsnet, Team 1200) in the opener of a four-game western road trip. It’s the first meeting between the teams since June 6, 2007, the night the Ducks beat the Senators 6-2 to finish off the Stanley Cup final in five games. While neither team currently leads its conference, both are considered strong contenders to get back to the league’s championship series again this spring. But for Senators head coach/general manager Bryan Murray, tonight isn’t about avenging last season’s Cup final loss. Rather, it’s an opportunity for his team to continue getting its game in order for the playoff chase to come.“That’s last year,” said Murray. “They’re now a team climbing in the standings and again, they’re going to be a serious contender. So sure, there’s motivation in that. But there’s motivation in every game now, I hope.“We’ve got a tough road trip here. We’ve got a tough finish to the year. We’ve just got to set up for each individual game and play well.”Still, there would be a bit of satisfaction gained tonight in beating the team that ended the Senators’ season a year ago.“We would definitely like to beat them, there’s no question,” said captain Daniel Alfredsson. “We know they’re playing really well now. It’s going to be a good test for us. Obviously, you can’t bring it up to the intensity you had in the playoffs, but I think it will be as close as you can (get it).”The Senators picked up the intensity in a major way during Saturday’s emotional 5-4 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins, which ended a three-game losing streak. Murray hopes that victory is a springboard for better things in the games ahead.“The games going forward now, they all have to be (played) at a high level,” he said. “All I hope is that we continue to play better … I liked some of the things I saw (Saturday).”But more will be required, no doubt, against the Ducks, the hottest team in the National Hockey League. They’re on a 10-1-0 run since veteran forward Teemu Selanne rejoined the team. Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere has regained his top form, going 8-1-0 with a 1.44 goals-against average in recent weeks.“It’s a nice measuring game,” said Murray. “We know they’re playing terrific right now, so it’s a nice game to see where we fit, no doubt about that.”A victory could also vault the Senators back into top spot in both the Eastern Conference and Northeast Division standings. Right now, Ottawa stands second in the division (behind Montreal, which plays the Sharks in San Jose tonight) and ranks fifth in the conference with 80 points (37-23-6), but is a mere one point behind the Canadiens and Penguins and is dead even with the New Jersey Devils. The Boston Bruins and New York Rangers are lurking another four points back.It simply couldn’t be much tighter.“Everybody’s in the race, and you have to play accordingly if you’re going to make the playoffs, let alone go anywhere in the playoffs,” said Murray.

Around the boards:

Martin Gerber (24-11-2) makes his second straight start in goal, facing the team that drafted him into the NHL … Big blueliner Chris Pronger (broken jaw) won’t be in the lineup for the Ducks tonight … It’s the first regular-season meeting between the teams since Jan. 19, 2006, when Anaheim scored a 4-3 shootout triumph at Scotiabank Place … The Senators are in San Jose on Wednesday, in Los Angeles on Thursday and in Phoenix on Saturday to conclude the road swing.

Sens Snatch Lapointe

The Sens didn't play a big role in the trade deadline this year but they did pick up a guy that will help them down the road;

Analysis: Lapointe is a gritty winger who plays a tough game despite his size. He's an adequate fit for any checking line, and brings character and leadership to the Senators locker room. Like recent acquisition Cory Stillman, Lapointe also brings plenty of playoff and Stanley Cup experience to Ottawa.

Trade Talk

There is a word going around that a couple of players won't be a part of the Senators after Tuesday, the trade deadline, here's the scoop of whats going on with Antoine Vermette and Ray Emery:

Antoine Vermette #20

Left Wing
Age: 25
07-08 Salary: $1.075M

The Skinny: If the Senators get that high-profile rental player for the postseason, Vermette will be a heart-breaker to let go as part of the deal. He has shown great offensive instincts and at age 25 he still has plenty of time to mature and perfect his game. But he'll also become a restricted free agent in July. With Ottawa picking up Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore, the likelihood of Vermette moving is slim. - TSN

Ray Emery #1

Goaltender
Age: 25
07-08 Salary: $$3.167M

The Skinny: After another late practice last month, it looked like Emery's days with the Senators were numbered. That, coupled with other recent problems had GM Bryan Murray thinking trade, but the team appears to be moving forward with both Emery and Gerber platooning in goal. Emery, who signed a three-year, $9.5-million US contract in the summer, is a longshot at best to go. - TSN

Senators Roster Video (Version 2)

Here's the updated version of my Senators video:

Sens Envolved in 4 Player Deal

It's about time the Murray and the Senators took inchoative and shook up the roster. With Corvo and Patrick Eaves on their way to Carolina, the Sens get big D-man Mike Commodore and 2 time Stanley cup winner Cory Stillman for some depth and ledership up front. Commodore will be playing on a line with Wade Redden when Stillman will be on a line with Fisher. Commodore will take Patrick Eaves old #44 when Cory Stillman will keep his old #61. Commodore will add much needed defense to the Senators blueline, already saving a few goals in his first game and laying some big hits before fighting Clarkson from New Jersey in their recent loss. Stillman has gathered 2 assists in 3 games with Ottawa so far.

Weekly Updates

As the title says there will be a weekly update, well, every week. This update will be the overall player stats of the Ottawa Senators of course. Also, of the team standings of the sens. The bad side of this is, well i don't even know if the video's are going to work. I'm hoping they will but if they don't, its not the biggest deal. So that's whats up and that's what I'm working on and be sure to check back after a sens game and see the complete game in review.
